London, New York, Paris and Milan. The big four. They have shown the world what they will be wearing come next summer and the world all watched. But that doesn’t mean they won’t still be watching this week when São Paulo Fashion Week (SPFW) kicks off in the city’s Biennial Building in Ibirapuera Park.

SPFW is a big event on the Brazilian fashion calendar and is increasingly gaining more attention on the international circuit as buyers and Press look beyond the big four for emerging talent, fresh approaches and eye catching pieces. SPFW is not a new event, it was started 16 years ago and has steadily grown into a five day event with around 35 shows, highlighting the best of Brazilian fashion design.

All the stalwarts of the Brazil fashion scene show here – established brands such as the surf-chic lifestyle brand Osklen; the street fashion brand Colucci, known for catwalk appearances by Paris Hilton and Ashton Kutcher; and Alexandre Herchcovitch, who also shows in Paris and is one of the scene’s brightest and best known stars. But there are also other designers to watch. Fernanda Yamamoto, Samuel Cirnansck and Reinaldo Lourenço have all made waves in the past. Who’s collections will cause a stir this time? We will have to wait and see.
